The Chief Nursing Officer leads Nursing and Respiratory Care services at Riverview Health.  The CNO is responsible for establishing patient care standards, processes and protocols to achieve high quality care.  The CNO implements and uses tools that ensure patient care quality standards are met for all age groups and incorporates processes designed to continuously improve care through evidence-based practice and develop a highly competent staff through ongoing education and training.

  • Develop and implement the vision, goals, objectives, and tactics for Nursing practice at Riverview Health.   Ensure appropriate policies, procedures, and nursing standards of patient care are in place to support the strategic direction.
  • Assume authority and responsibility to ensure Nursing staff meets the requirements of the Nurse Practice Act, Indiana Board of Nursing Standards of Competent Practice, and advanced Nursing standards, as well as all clinical departments and their respective competencies.
  • Monitor and evaluate each Nursing department’s financial and operation performance. Coach and mentor leaders in develop a well-rounded skill set.
  • Provide direction and support, through collaboration with leadership and staff for activities related to: accreditation and regulatory compliance, performance improvement, patient safety including sentinel event responses, risk management, policy development and clinical outcomes.
  • Ensure each department is staffed with adequate and qualified employees to meet the needs of their customers serviced either directly or indirectly.
  • Assess educational needs of assigned departments and partner with appropriate resources to validate and/or improve clinical skills and /or maintain competency
  • Serve as a liaison between Nursing, other clinical departments, the Board of Trustees, and Medical Staff.
  • Partner with the schools of nursing and the community to influence the curriculum and education of future clinical professionals.   

Job Requirements

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelors Degree from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Preferred: Masters degree in Nursing, a healthcare related field, or MBA

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum: Five (5) years progressive leadership positions in a Nursing related field
  • Preferred: Eight (8) or more years of experience as a hospital department director

License / Certification Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana at the time of hire/transfer into the position
