The Certified Central Sterile Technician is an integral member of the healthcare team responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, disassembling, packaging and sterilizing reusable surgical instruments or devices used in surgical procedures. The position requires certification as a Certified Surgical Tech (CST) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), detail orientation, an eagerness to learn, focus on patient safety, and the ability to work and communicate with a team.
Job Responsibilities
Process instrumentation and equipment used in the operating room according to manufacturers' recommendations and hospital policy and procedure.
Maintain instrumentation in working order. Perform preventive maintenance tasks and verify equipment functions properly. Submit requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and move defective equipment, pulling it from use until repair or replacement is completed.
Report complete and accurate data relating to the biological and quality testing of sterilization equipment.
Follow established procedures for receiving, decontaminating, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing medical equipment.
Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, medical supplies, and equipment. Differentiate the cleaning and sterilization methods as required for specific equipment and instruments.
Assemble wraps and sterilize trays of instruments.
Monitor stock levels and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas
Label, collect, and distribute instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment to units where they are needed.
