Coder Abstractor Outpatient

POSITION SUMMARY

• The Coder Abstractor for Outpatient services is responsible for maintaining current and high-quality ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for all outpatient diagnoses using thorough review of clinical documentation and diagnostic results and consistent coding accuracy rate of 95% or better.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Accurately apply knowledge of International Classification of Diseases and Procedures (ICD 10), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT 4) code sets, and associated Medicare/Medicaid rules and guidelines.
• Assign codes for diagnoses and treatments according to the ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting through review of coding critical documentation, to generate appropriate APC assignment.
• Extract and abstract required information from source documentation, to be entered into appropriate electronic medical record system.
• Work from assigned coding queues, completing and re-assigning accounts correctly.
• Maintain professional affiliations and credentials as appropriate.
