POSITION SUMMARY
- The Coder Abstractor for Outpatient services is responsible for maintaining current and high-quality ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for all outpatient diagnoses using thorough review of clinical documentation and diagnostic results and consistent coding accuracy rate of 95% or better.
- Accurately apply knowledge of International Classification of Diseases and Procedures (ICD 10), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT 4) code sets, and associated Medicare/Medicaid rules and guidelines.
- Assign codes for diagnoses and treatments according to the ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting through review of coding critical documentation, to generate appropriate APC assignment.
- Extract and abstract required information from source documentation, to be entered into appropriate electronic medical record system.
- Work from assigned coding queues, completing and re-assigning accounts correctly.
- Maintain professional affiliations and credentials as appropriate.

Education Requirements
- Minimum: High school Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred Associate's Degree or Bachelor Degree in Health Information
Experience Requirements
- One (1) year outpatient coding experience in an acute care setting
License / Certification Requirements
- RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC or CIC
