- The Certified Nursing Assistant I (CNA I) is a multi-skilled member of the care team who provides transportation, nutritional support, routine hygienic care, selective respiratory procedures, complete vital signs, retrieval of equipment and basic support of patients ADL’s. The CNA I participates as a member of a bedside team in support of the team and in achieving the units goals and objectives. The Certified Nursing Assistant I is responsible for cleaning the utility equipment rooms and maintaining patient rooms and hallways to ensure the safety of the patient.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must comply with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Must assist with carrying out patient care to facilitate positive patient outcomes and ensure timely discharge.
- Must observe, document, and communicate to the care coordinator or clinical partner significant findings in order to minimize and prevent delays or complications in patients care.
- Must document pertinent patient care data on appropriate forms. Documentation must meet legal, ethical, and procedure guidelines.
- Must assist in the provision for routine hygienic, nutritional, and comfort needs such as but not limited to: bathing; distributing fluids and nourishments; feeding patients; ambulating patients; changing bed linens; oral care; grooming of patients; shampooing patients hair; toileting patients; dressing and undressing of patients.
- Must encourage patients to achieve maximum level of self care.
- Must provide routine clinical tests and procedures such as but not limited to: vital signs; enemas; hot/cold packs; measure and document input and output by patients; weigh patients; bladder ultrasound; and suction set up.
- Must report patient responses and procedure results to the team care coordinator.
- Must perform basic nursing tasks such as but not limited to: answer call lights; transports patients; transports specimens; assist with transferring; assist with range of motion.
- Must demonstrate written and clinical competency of the following: basic wound care; enemas; catheter insertion and removal; blood glucose meter; discontinuing of saline locks; discontinuing of NG's; initial admission paperwork (vitals, orientation to room); specimen collections; application and maintenance of cardiac monitoring; and incentive spirometry.
- Must assist physicians and other team members with treatments and procedures as directed.
- Must perform unit support functions, such as but not limited to: answering the phone; retrieving and transporting supplies and equipment; orienting patient to room upon admission.
- Must be knowledgeable of and demonstrate skills in the pronciples of infection prevention, reduction, and control.
- Must provide care based on philosophical and ethical concepts.
- These concepts include reverence for life; respect for the inherent dignity, worth, autonomy, and individuality of each human being, and acknowledging the beliefs of other people.
- Must actively work to ensure that patient rights are identified and met for every patient.
- Must attend mandatory inservices and other educational offerings as encouraged by the Unit Clinical Director or Manager.
- If applicable, must function as testing personnel under CLIA1988 regulations as they relate to point of care testing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Level of Education
- Minimum: High School Diploma and graduate of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA ) program.

Level of Experience - Preferred: CNA for 1year in a hospital environment
