As a member of the healthcare team here at Riverview Health, the Patient Access Specialist communicates directly with patients, healthcare staff and support services to ensure thorough and accurate patient information is received to provide quality care throughout the patient experience . Information collected includes sensitive and personal data and requires the Patient Access Specialist to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor and strict confidentiality of the provided information.

Patient Access Specialist Job Functions:

• Greet patients and/or customers as they enter.

• Use established process, procedures, and forms to interview the patient/guarantor to obtain complete demographic, clinical, billing, insurance, and financial information. Explain processes and forms to patients prior to securing signatures and ensure all documents are properly signed and witnessed as required. Obtain and scan the patient's ID and insurance cards.

• Record information accurately and timely in the electronic medical record. When the electronic record keeping system is unavailable, use the established down time registration process.

• Inventory and order specific supplies for the department. Stock and maintain supplies and equipment in proper storage areas to be readily accessible.

• Relay information to patient care providers and assist providers as needed or requested.

• Politely and professionally respond to patient/customer questions and concerns.

• Schedule patients for follow-up appointments as needed or required.

• Contact insurance companies for precertification’s and authorizations.
